Eduardo Magaña, a 31-year-old journalist and writer from Mexico City, has built a diverse career spanning news, sports, and feature writing. His work blends sharp reporting with reflective storytelling, offering readers a window into the people, places, and moments that define a community.
Magaña’s journey began at 19 as a photojournalist for Mexico City’s La Crónica. He quickly ascended to reporting at El Universal, one of the nation’s leading outlets, before transitioning into editorial roles at Grupo Imagen Multimedia and later becoming a marketing specialist for Grupo Gigante. Along the way, his bylines and collaborations have appeared in VICE, El País, Revista Marvin, IndieRocks!, Excélsior, and in campaigns with brands like Manchester City, ESPN, Puma, and Bushmills.
In 2023, Magaña took a leap beyond Mexico, joining Deep South Media Group in Alabama as a journalist covering news, sports, and feature stories for five newspapers across Clarke, Washington, and Mobile counties. Over the next two years, he immersed himself in the culture and landscapes of the American South, documenting small-town traditions, high school sports, and the voices that shape the region. His column, Trails and Tales, became a space for reflection, blending personal experiences with vivid storytelling about life in the South.
An avid runner and lover of the outdoors, Magaña’s passion for sports informs much of his work. Whether covering the intensity of competition or exploring the cultural impact of sports, his writing bridges the personal and the communal, capturing both the energy of the game and the traditions that surround it.
Now back in Mexico City, Magaña continues to craft compelling narratives that illuminate the extraordinary in everyday moments, drawing from his experiences across borders to connect readers with the world through his storytelling.
